Amazon Prime Days

Don’t get me wrong - I know that supporting local can be a privilege, and these days, stretching the budget where and how we can is something most of us are doing, myself included. But ahead of the upcoming Amazon prime day sales, I thought I’d revisit (and repurpose) an old piece of MEE content.

Here are a few reasons for you to support your local business community, when possible and when the budget allows:

Economic impact: When you shop locally, a larger percentage of your money stays within the local economy. Local businesses often source their products and services locally as well, creating a positive economic ripple effect. By supporting local businesses, you contribute to job creation and economic growth in your community.

Personalized service: Local businesses are known for providing personalized customer service. They often have a deep understanding of their products and can offer tailored recommendations and assistance. Unlike the automated and impersonal nature of online shopping, local businesses value building relationships with their customers and strive to provide a positive shopping experience.

Unique products and diversity: Local businesses often offer a wide range of unique products that are not readily available on large online platforms. By shopping locally, you can discover distinctive items and support local artisans, craftsmen, and entrepreneurs. This diversity helps foster a vibrant and culturally rich community.

Environmental impact: Online shopping, particularly through Amazon Prime, contributes to increased packaging waste, transportation emissions, and overall carbon footprint. Local businesses usually have shorter supply chains, reducing the environmental impact associated with long-distance shipping. Additionally, supporting local farmers and producers can help promote sustainable practices and reduce the reliance on industrialized agriculture.

Community cohesion: Local businesses are integral to the fabric of a community. They often participate in local events, sponsor sports teams, and support community initiatives. By shopping locally, you contribute to the overall well-being of your community and help create a sense of belonging and connection among residents.

Remember, there are MANY ways to help support local businesses - and sharing their products is an easy (and low cost) way to get started.
